Comsumers¢¥ Perception on Reuse of Second-hand Home Electric Appliances and the Promotion of their Reuse in Sungnam

Abstract
This study was designated to investigate consumers¢¥ disposition behavior of home electric appliances and the perception on reuse of second-hand home electric appliances to provide fundamantal information in promoting their reuse in Sungnam.
485 consumers living in Sungnam were participated for the final sample analysis. All data were collected using a self-administered survey from October 20 to November 10. 1988. The frequency distribution, factor analysis, t-test. oneway ANOVA. X¢¥ test. Duncan¢¥s test, and Cronbach¢¥s a were used to analyze the data.
The major findings of this study were as follows:
1) The rate of consumers¢¥ disposing activities for home electric appliances was not high. However there ~N,ere those who did not dispose them. they were just keeping them not for use but as a burden instead. Most consumers could not dispose them becuase of inconvenient process and system for disposing. The perception on their reuse was rather positive due to recognition of the importance of reuse or recycling the second-hand home electric appliances.
2) Despite of the consumers¢¥ recognition. only a few purchasers have used second-hand electric appliances at the recycling center. Most consumers were reluctant to buy them because of low quality, lack of performance, poor A/S system, and consumers¢¥ weak conciousness. But the consumers¢¥ needs for zpecific information of second-hand home electric appliances were very high. Thus, if all the problems are promoted step by step, more purchasers will be willing to use second-hand home electric appliances.
Based on the above findings, this study suggests as follows
1) The net system should be established to provide the information of second-hand home electric appliances for the consumers.
2) More professional engineers and personnels should be educated or trained in academic to work in the field distridution of second-hand home electric appliances.
3) The government owned public corporation centers and the academics should be united and they should set the policies for promoting reuse of wasted home electric appliances.
